On World Parkinson’s Day, 11 April 2025, the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS KP) and the Trepetlika Association have joined the forces to contribute to “Spark The Night” – a global initiative that brings together individuals, communities and institutions worldwide to raise awareness and stand in support for people living with Parkinson’s disease.
This year, the symbolic gesture also reached Koper, where Pristaniška Street shined blue as a sign of solidarity and awareness. The “Spark The Night” campaign aims to light 11.8 million blue lights worldwide – one for each of the 11.8 million people affected by Parkinson’s disease.
ZRS Koper’s commitment goes beyond symbolism and also extends to research. One important example is the international project NeuroDance (dancing intervention to alleviate symptoms and promote well-being in patients with Parkinson’s and related neurodegenerative diseases, ERASMUS-SPORT-2024 101185424). NeuroDance develops dance-based interventions as a supportive therapy for people with Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. The project, which is being carried out in collaboration with international partners, is researching innovative and integrative approaches to improve the quality of life of patients.
The Trepetlika association, a Slovenian partner in the project, has a long history of advocating for people with Parkinson’s, raising public awareness and promoting understanding of the challenges posed by the disease. Collaboration between scientific and local communities plays an important role in promoting an inclusive and supportive society.
